Restless leg syndrome is a disorder of the nervous system that causes an urge to move the legs. Because it usually interferes with sleep, it is also considered a sleep disorder.

Symptoms of Restless Leg Syndrome:

  • An uncomfortable sensation in legs
  • Irresistible urge to move legs to relieve the sensation
  • Itchy, pins and needles, or creepy crawly feeling in the legs

The severity of RLS symptoms ranges from mild to intolerable. Symptoms can come and go and are generally worse in the evening and night.

In most cases the cause of restless leg syndrome is unknown. There are certain factors that can potentially make restless legs worse including chronic diseases (peripheral neuropathy, iron deficiency or diabetes), medications and pregnancy.
